Eliud Kipchoge Wins Record Fourth London Marathon Title

By Adam Kopet

Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei, both of Kenya, won Sunday at the Virgin Money London Marathon.

Kipchoge won a record fourth London Marathon title, adding to his 2015, 2016 and 2018 wins. His time of 2:02:37 broke his course record from 2016. It is the second-fastest time ever run, 58 seconds behind Kipchoge's world record he set in Berlin last year.

Ethiopia's Mosinet Geremew finished second and became the third man to break 2:03. His time of 2:02:55 also bettered Kipchoge's former course record and bettered Dennis Kimetto's former world record to become the second-fastest man ever in the marathon.

Ethiopia's Mule Wasihun finished third in 2:03:16. Mo Farah finished fifth in 2:05:39 in front of his hometown fans.

Kosgei improved on her 2018 finish by one spot to take home the victory in 2:18:20, a personal best. She made two big moves over the final half of the race to earn a sizable victory.

Defending champion Vivian Cheruiyot of Kenya finished second in 2:20:14. Ethiopia's Roza Dereje won a sprint finish for third place in 2:20:51.

Emily Sisson finished sixth in her marathon debut, running 2:23:08. She finished eight seconds off Jordan Hasay's American debut record, but she smashed the women's-only American record.

Molly Huddle finished 12th in 2:26:33, a personal best by 11 seconds.

More details from the London Marathon will be available in the DyeStat Road Race Round-Up.
