Kenenisa Bekele Added to Elite Field for 2018 London MarathonBy Adam Kopet The organizers for the Virgin Money London Marathon announced Sunday that Kenenisa Bekele will race the 2018 edition of the race in a press release. Bekele will face Eliud Kipchoge and Mo Farah in the race. In addition to holding the world records at 5,000 and 10,000 meters on the track, Bekele holds the second fastest marathon time ever, 2:03:03 from his 2016 Berlin Marathon win. The last time Bekele and Kipchoge raced, at the 2017 Berlin Marathon, Kipchoge won in a world leading time and Bekele dropped out at 30 kilometers. However, Bekele cited the rain as a major factor in his poor race performance in Berlin. The London Marathon organizers will continue to announce elite athletes competing in this year's race throughout the week. |
