Bigwigs ClashPublished by The Star on April 8, 2015 History is at stake as the two world’s fastest marathoners—Dennis Kimetto and Wilson Kipsang clash in London Marathon on April 26 for the coveted crown. Kipsang, the former world marathon record holder (2:03.23) and Kimetto, the current record holder (2:02.57), will for the first time face-off for the same title over the 42km distance. The two have, however, over the 21km at 2011 RAK Half Marathon, where Kimetto prevailed over Kipsang in a time of 1:00.40. While Kipsang is eying the third title at the London Marathon, Kimetto will be making his first appearance on the course. With two London wins (2012 and 2014), alongside a fifth placing in 2013, Kipsang has a upper hand in terms of experience and will no doubt start favourite on a familiar course. “My focus at the moment is to run London Marathon, where I will be going for a third win,” said Kipsang. He holds the course record of 2:04.27 which he posted when he won the 2012 edition. Read the full article at: www.the-star.co.ke
